Do I need to prove use to renew in China?

No. CNIPA does not ask for use evidence at renewal. But a mark left unused for 3 years in a row, without good reason, can be cancelled on anyone's request.

What does CNIPA charge to renew?

¥450 per class filed online, or ¥500 on paper. In the grace period CNIPA adds a late fee of ¥225 per class online, or ¥250 on paper.

Can a foreign company renew a Chinese trademark directly with CNIPA?

Usually not. CNIPA says a foreign applicant must use a trademark agency set up under Chinese law. Foreign individuals with habitual residence in China are the exception.

What does CNIPA send when my renewal is approved?

CNIPA issues a renewal certificate to the owner. If it does not approve the renewal, it sends a notice of non-approval instead.

Can I withdraw a Chinese renewal after filing it?

Yes. CNIPA allows a renewal application to be withdrawn at any time before it is approved.

How much does a China renewal cost?

CNIPA charges CN¥450 (passed through at cost) plus GTC's $300/class attorney fee. The mid-term use declaration, where one applies, is a separate filing quoted when due.

When should I file my China trademark renewal?

The optimal window is within the CNIPA's standard pre-expiry filing window. We file as soon as the office opens the renewal window, well before the deadline. 6-month grace period after expiry with a CNY 225/class late fee (online) is a fallback, not a strategy.
