A CNIPA renewal must be filed in the 12-month window before the 10-year expiry. Renewal is in Mandarin via the firm's Chinese trademark agent and renews protection across mainland China for the registered goods and Chinese sub-classes.

Why timing matters
Why China renewal timing matters.
Registration-based. Renewal must be filed within 12 months before expiry
CNIPA does not send foreign-language reminders. Missing the renewal window cancels the registration, and the mark becomes immediately available for a third party to re-register (and squatters watch for these gaps in foreign portfolios).
Grace period exists, but it costs
CNIPA allows 6-month grace period after expiry with double the standard fee, but the surcharge is real money, and the registration is technically lapsed during that window. Better to file in the standard window.
Missed renewal = lost mark
If the China grace period also lapses, the mark is cancelled and the date you lose. Any third party can register the same mark from the day after, including in jurisdictions where squatting is endemic.
