Do I get money back if I give up the mark mid-term?

No. Once a term has started, the fee is not refunded if you give up the mark. That is why the Korean office suggests two 5-year installments if you are unsure about the full 10 years.

Do joint owners have to renew together?

Yes. When a Korean mark has joint owners, all of them must file the renewal application together.

Do I need to show use to renew in Korea?

No. But if a mark goes unused in Korea for 3 years in a row, anyone can ask for a trial to revoke it. Renewal is a good time to check what you still sell.

Can I split the Korean renewal fee?

Yes. MOIP's fee table lists a two-installment option for renewals, at KRW 184,000 per class for each installment. Two installments cost more in total than one lump sum.

Why is my Korean renewal asking for reclassification?

Marks registered under the Korean goods classification before March 1, 1998 must move to Nice classes. You can file the reclassification and the renewal in one application.

Is KIPO still the office that renews Korean trademarks?

The office now operates as the Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP). Its English site is still at kipo.go.kr and it handles the same renewal filings.

How much does a South Korea renewal cost?

MOIP charges ₩230,000 (passed through at cost) plus GTC's $350/class service fee. The mid-term use declaration, where one applies, is a separate filing quoted when due.

When should I file my South Korea trademark renewal?

The optimal window is within the MOIP's standard pre-expiry filing window. We file as soon as the office opens the renewal window, well before the deadline. 6-month grace period after expiry with KRW 330,000/class late fee is a fallback, not a strategy.
