No. The request and fee must fall in the 6 months before expiry. We diary the date and file as soon as the window opens.

Do I need to prove use to renew an EU trade mark?

No. Renewal is a request and a fee. But a mark not put to genuine use in the EU for 5 years in a row can be revoked, so renewal is a good time to drop unused classes.

What if the fee paid covers fewer classes than the mark has?

EUIPO renews only the classes the payment covers. If it is not clear which ones, it takes them in class-number order until the money runs out.

Can a licensee renew an EU trade mark?

Yes, if the owner has expressly authorised it. The authorisation does not need to be filed unless EUIPO asks for it.

What if I let my EU trade mark lapse but still want protection in some countries?

You can ask to convert it into national applications. The conversion request must be filed within three months after the renewal grace period ends.

When does EUIPO confirm my EU renewal?

EUIPO sends a written confirmation a few days after the actual expiry date, even if you paid months earlier. The renewal counts from the day after expiry.

How much does a European Union renewal cost?

EUIPO charges €850 (passed through at cost) plus GTC's $120/class attorney fee. The mid-term use declaration, where one applies, is a separate filing quoted when due.
