First-to-file under Article L711
Whoever applies at INPI first owns the priority. France recognises some prior-use defences in narrow cases, but the safer strategy is to file early.
Let our experienced attorneys take care of everything. They check your name, prepare the application and file it with the INPI.
Starting from $490 attorney fee + government filing fee.

Filing in France
The rules that change how we search, draft and file for you. We handle every one of them.
Whoever applies at INPI first owns the priority. France recognises some prior-use defences in narrow cases, but the safer strategy is to file early.
INPI examiners assess distinctiveness in French, a mark that's distinctive in English can be descriptive when translated. CPI screening catches this before you file.
A registered French trade mark is the basis for a Demande d'intervention with the Direction générale des douanes, letting French customs seize counterfeits at every French port and airport.
EUTMs cover all 27 EU states (including France) for one fee. A direct French filing makes sense when other EU member states have blockers or when you want a fully independent national right with no central-attack exposure.
Your attorney runs the check, the drafting and every letter from the INPI with you, from the first search to the certificate and the renewal ten years on.

After you submit
No chasing. Each step lands in your portal and your inbox, with the next step and its date.
Your attorney's read on the name, the classes we suggest, and a quote with every INPI fee on it. Nothing to pay yet.
You add the owner details in your portal. We prepare the power of attorney and tell you exactly how to sign and return it.
We file and send you the INPI's receipt with your application number. Payment 1 is invoiced now.
Anything the INPI sends comes to you in plain English with our recommended reply, before any deadline.
We upload your certificate. Your renewal date is diaried.
Before you file
An earlier identical or similar French or EUTM right covers identical or similar goods. A pre-filing INPI + EUTM clearance search catches this before you spend €195.93.
The mark is generic, descriptive, or non-distinctive in French. Counsel argues acquired distinctiveness or refines the specification.
The mark describes a kind, quality, intended purpose, or origin in French. Strict French-language examination. Your CPI drafts to clear this bar.
Includes marks contrary to public order, deceptive marks, and protected official symbols. We screen for these at intake.
