Filing in Saudi Arabia
The rules that change how we search, draft and file for you. We handle every one of them.
Saudi Arabia operates strictly first-to-file. Whoever applies at SAIP first owns the priority right.
SAIP requires the specification of goods to be drafted in Arabic. English-only specifications are not accepted.
SAIP applies strict review of marks that conflict with Islamic law, religious symbols, alcohol/pork-related marks, or local cultural norms. Pre-filing screening is essential.
Saudi Arabia is rapidly developing its consumer market under Vision 2030. Trademark protection is a priority enforcement area, including customs and online platform takedowns.
Your attorney runs the check, the drafting and every letter from the SAIP with you, from the first search to the certificate and the renewal ten years on.

We upload your certificate. Your renewal date is diaried.
Before you file
An earlier identical or similar SAIP registration covers the same or similar goods. A pre-filing SAIP clearance search catches this before you spend SAR 6,800.
The mark is generic, descriptive, or laudatory in Arabic or English. Counsel argues acquired distinctiveness or refines the specification.
Marks containing alcohol references, pork imagery, non-Islamic religious symbols, gambling terminology, or content contrary to Islamic morality are refused. SAIP applies these grounds strictly.
Marks that suggest a misleading geographic origin or that deceive as to nature, quality, or origin of goods.
